A Chronology

Late 1960s: Eric Clapton meets Pattie Boyd, then George Harrison's wife, and falls desperately in love with her.
1970: Eric Clapton releases the song "Layla," based on a Persian poem about a moon princess married off by her father and the subsequent insanity of a man who was desperately in love with her. The song was about his unbearable feelings for Pattie Boyd and about how much and how badly he wanted her and how much he was suffering without her.
1977: Pattie Boyd divorces George Harrison.
1979: Eric Clapton marries Pattie Boyd.
1985: Eric Clapton leaves Pattie Boyd for model Lori del Santo.
1989: Eric Clapton divorces Pattie Boyd. OOPS.
